Plimmerton

Plimmerton

Plimmerton is another community west of the railway which marks the only entry to the village. Named after John Plimmer, a prominent Wellington businessman and director of the Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company, whose influence helped established Plimmerton during the railway’s expansion in the 1880s. The area was originally known as Taupō, a significant site for local Māori and home to the Ngāti Toa chief Te Rauparaha.

Prominent is the popular beach overlooked by Mana Island and is just a step off the regular train service.
